Check in to the quirky-cool QT hotel in the Gold Coast, which has won the Overall Hotel of the Year - Accommodation gong; just remember to book a table at the onsite Japanese restaurant, Yamagen, which has also been named as one of the region's top eateries. In Brisbane, Crystalbrook Vincent has received the Best Superior Accommodation honour, thanks to well-appointed rooms with bright splashes of colour and pleasing views.

Meanwhile, there's plenty of action unfolding in the southern capitals as well. Some of the most famous works by French artist Paul Gauguin are coming to the National Gallery of Art in Canberra as part of the Gauguin's World: Tona Iho, Tona Ao exhibition (from June 29 to October 7). Over in Sydney, the Art Gallery of NSW is focussing on modern European art, with the opening of Alphonse Mucha: Spirit of Art Nouveau exhibition (until September 22), featuring some of the Czech artist's most renowned illustrations, photographs and pieces of jewellery.
